Martyn’s Law training for your staff
Procedures only work if the people on shift know them. Training is how you get from a document to a team that acts.
Martyn’s Law does not require an accredited course. What matters is that staff understand the venue’s evacuation, invacuation, lockdown and communication procedures and their own role in them. ProtectUK’s ACT Awareness e-learning is free; a short briefing on your own building and a tabletop exercise make it specific.
What kind of training do staff need?
- General awareness: what an attack might look like, Run Hide Tell, spotting suspicious behaviour. The free ProtectUK ACT Awareness e-learning covers this.
- Your building: which doors lock, where the invacuation room is, the code phrase, who calls 999. Only your own procedures can teach this.
- Practice: a tabletop run-through using the free ACT in a Box exercise, so people have talked it through before they need it.
What we provide
A short video-call briefing for your team on your own procedures, followed by a tabletop run-through, and a one-page summary new starters can read in five minutes. In South and West Wales we can do it on site.
Is a qualification required?
No. There is no required Martyn’s Law qualification for staff or venues. Paid e-learning courses exist and can be useful, but finishing a course is not the same as staff who know where the lockdown doors are.
Before you pay anyone: the Home Office says premises do not need to buy consultancy to meet the standard tier, and its guidance, the SIA’s guidance and the ProtectUK training are free. Neither the Home Office nor the SIA endorses any provider, including us. The legal responsibility stays with the person responsible for the premises; we help with the work, we do not take the duty off you.

Is there a mandatory Martyn's Law training course?
